Taking care of your skin

Taking care of your skin is essential for looking your best on your wedding day. But you don’t have to be getting married to have great skin. Here are some of my skincare tips for my clients and brides:

  1. Start now! Don't wait until the last minute to start taking care of your skin. The earlier you start, the better your skin will look on your wedding day. Ideally, you should start a skincare routine at least six months before your wedding or an event you are going to.

  2. Know your skin type: Everyone's skin is different, so it's essential to know your skin type before choosing products. If you're not sure I would consult an reputable beauty salon and speak to one of their trained therapists.

  3. 3 step basics- Cleanse, tone, and moisturise. The skincare routine should include cleansing, toning, and moisturising twice daily. Use a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and oil, a toner to balance your skin's pH, and a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.

  4. Exfoliate: Exfoliating once or twice a week will help remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. Use a gentle scrub or a chemical exfoliant like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs).

  5. Protect your skin from the sun: Sun damage can cause premature aging and skin cancer. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 or higher every day, even if it's cloudy outside or winter.

  6. Get enough sleep: Lack of sleep can cause dark circles, puffiness, and dull skin. Aim for at least seven or eight hours of sleep per night and purchase a silk pillow case (see my previous blog). https://www.makeupbycarla.co.uk/post/mulberry-silk-pillowcases-worth-the-investment

  7. Drink plenty of water: Drinking water helps keep your skin hydrated and glowing. Aim for at least eight glasses of water per day. Try get a bottle that helps you to remember to drink on the hour every hour. If you don’t like plain water get a flavoured tea bag to make the water taste a bit more interesting.

  8. A BIG tip!!!! Don't try any new products in the weeks leading up to your wedding. Stick to your usual routine to avoid any potential reactions or breakouts.

  9. Consider professional treatments: If you have specific skin concerns like acne, uneven skin tone, or fine lines, consider getting professional treatments like facials, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion. I go to True Beauty Medispa in Twickenham https://instagram.com/truemedispa_twickenham?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= and love their H20 hydra facial and their mesotherapy treatments. I also highly recommend their bespoke facial which is tailored 100% to your skins needs.

  10. Exfoliate your lips and keep them well moisturised and in good condition. I love the Brazilian Lip Gloss treatment

  12. Relax and enjoy: Stress can cause breakouts and dull skin. Take some time for yourself to relax and enjoy the wedding planning process.
